CASPER, Wyo. — The ding of aluminum bats and the cheering of fans and players emanated from Washington Park on Saturday at the inaugural Rock the Diamond Baseball Tournament.

The tourney features five teams from throughout the state: the Casper Knights, the Cheyenne Coyotes, the Rawlins Renegades, the Green River Wolves and the 307 Spartans out of Rock Springs.

“This is our first big event of the season, so we’re really excited,” Casper Knights coach Clayton Parry said.

In the coming weeks, the Knights will be traveling to Green River, Lander and Cheyenne for more competition, Parry said.

Play at the Rock the Diamond Tournament kicked off at 11 a.m. and will continue for much of the rest of the day at the Washington Park ball field. Competition will resume Sunday morning at 9 a.m., according to Parry.

“It should be a fun two days of nonstop baseball,” Parry said.
