CASPER, Wyo. – A winter’s blast won’t stop Casper’s annual downtown Christmas parade, according to the Casper Police Department.

“At this point everything’s on track with minimal changes on my end if any,” said Sgt. Jeffery Bullard. “We’re just out putting up the no parking signs right now and getting ready for a fun time tonight.”

Bullard says people should dress appropriately for the conditions, which according to the National Weather Service will be very cold and windy.

“Bring extra hats and gloves in case they get wet, especially for the kiddos,” he said. “The secondary streets will be in rough condition, so slow down and give yourself extra time to get here.”

In Bar Nunn, the annual Christmas parade organized by the Bar Nunn Fire Department is postponed and will be rescheduled.

“We need to keep all of our trucks in service and ready to respond,” said the department on a Facebook post on Saturday morning.

Casper’s downtown parade starts after the Community Christmas Tree lighting at David Street Station at 6:15 p.m.

Meanwhile, some businesses announced early closures today due to the weather.

Peaches Family Restaurant is closed today “so our crew may avoid the road conditions and spend extra time with family & friends,” according to a Facebook post.

The CY Antique Mall is closed, as is the Wolcott Galleria, which was announced by the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce on social media.

“They will recognize Small Business Saturday on 12/7,” said the post.

Highway and interstate travel has come to a standstill because of closures throughout the state. As of 9:30 a.m. I-25 and most of I-80 is closed, according to WYDOT.
