CASPER, Wyo. — Casper set a new cold temperature record overnight thanks to the latest winter storm that moved through Wyoming this week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, Casper’s low temperature early this morning hit -25 degrees, breaking a previous record of -21 degrees set in 1965.

The NWS says other records in the state are expected to be broken, with lows of -24 degrees and -17 degrees set in Rawlins and Laramie, respectively.

Today’s high in Casper is expected to reach 12 degrees, with sunny skies, but windchills could dip as low as -10 degrees. Overnight lows will dip down again to around 2 degrees, said the NWS.

Temperatures will go up, but winds will also increase this week, with a high of 40 degrees and mostly sunny skies on Saturday alongside wind gusts up to 40 mph.
