CASPER, Wyo. — The suspect in a double homicide in Green River late Thursday night has died from injuries that were apparently self-inflicted during his apprehension, according to a release from the Green River Police Department.

The suspect has been identified as Green River resident Douglas Wolf, 51.

Officers were responding to the Embassy Tavern on Thursday night for a disturbance when a second call of an active shooter was received. Officers arrived to find two people dead and one wounded at the Embassy, authorities said.

Tactical teams including K-9 units located Wolf in an unoccupied industrial building on Mesa Drive near Cathedral Drive, north of Rock Springs. Police say Wolf was still in possession of the firearm, which he was pointing at his head.

Tactical officers moved in and secured the weapon, then immediately began life-saving measures. The suspect was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, where he was officially pronounced deceased shortly after 11 a.m. Friday morning, police said.

“No shots were fired by law enforcement during the encounter; however, due to standard operating procedure for local law enforcement agencies in Sweetwater County, the investigation of the shooting in this portion of the incident has been turned over to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation,” the release said.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives that have been taken by this senseless act,” the release added. “Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of those affected by this tragedy.”

Green River PD thanks the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, Rock Springs Police Department, Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigations, Combined Communication Center, Combined Tactical and Negotiation Teams, and Combined Bomb Team and Disposal Team for their assistance in the incident.
