CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Eric Lamario Mitchell was recently sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Cheyenne Police Department conducted a traffic stop in July 2023 on a vehicle in which the 41-year-old was the front passenger. Officers located a .45 caliber 1911 handgun under his seat. Mitchell, a convicted felon, was not allowed to possess firearms. Officers also executed a warrant for Mitchell’s hotel room and found another gun, a .22 caliber handgun, under his mattress.

Michell was indicted in November and pleaded guilty on Feb. 6. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl issued the sentence on April 26. The crime was investigated by the Cheyenne Police Department, Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and the DEA.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige Hammer.
