GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Powell man died while his passenger was injured early Saturday morning following a single-vehicle rollover on North Highway 59, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

The man — identified on April 22 as 19-year-old Brandon L. Cossitt — died of head and chest trauma after he was reportedly ejected from a 2008 GMC Acadia that rolled on North Highway 59 around 2:22 a.m. April 20, authorities say.

According to Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds, the sheriff’s office received notification of the rollover through Apple Crash Detection, which provided coordinates near Rawhide Mine. When officers arrived, they found Cossitt lying outside the GMC while a 24-year-old man remained trapped inside.

The 24-year-old was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital by emergency medical services. Cossitt, however, was pronounced deceased at the scene, per Reynolds.

As of April 22, the investigation is ongoing, though deputies are looking at high speed and alcohol use as potential contributing factors to the crash, according to Reynolds.
