Sarah Rowe 1st place poster (Wyoming Department of Health Website)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — In a mix of creativity and raising awareness, Cheyenne student Sarah Rowe clinched first place in the Wyoming Department of Health’s annual radon poster contest. The contest, aimed at educating the public about the dangers of radon, saw entries from across the state.

Rowe, a member of the Horsin’ Around 4-H Club and a student in the sixth grade, led the 3rd-6th Grade Category with her informative and visually engaging poster. Rowe’s entry was followed by Anwynn Fack from Meadowlark Elementary in Sheridan.

In the 7th–9th Grade Category, Taylor Peters from Powell High School took home the first-place prize, and Paige Sanders, also from Powell High School, brought home second place.

Radon is an invisible, odorless and tasteless gas that poses significant health risks, particularly in enclosed spaces like homes, according to a press release by the health department. It naturally occurs as a radioactive decay product of radium and is prevalent in rocks, soil and water.

The WDH encourages residents to visit their website to view the winning entries, learn more about radon risks and even order a free radon test kit, available while supplies last.
