CASPER, Wyo. — Dean Morgan Middle School is diving into the eSports arena thanks to a significant grant award. Lisa Shadrick, a vocational education teacher at the school, secured a $25,000 Career and Technical Education Cutting Edge Grant from the Wyoming Department of Education, according to a memo sent to the Natrona County School District Board of Trustees.
The awarded funds will launch an after-school eSports program, complete with a tournament team if accepted by the School Board at its meeting on Oct. 9.
“This is a fun way to engage students with a STEM career pathway and career readiness through gaming,” stated Shadrick.
Under the combined leadership of Shadrick and the school’s principal, Clay Cates, the program anticipates multiple benefits such as enhanced attendance, improved grades and heightened student engagement.
