The Natrona County Suicide Prevention Task Force (NCSPTF) invites the community to come together for the 22nd Annual Breaking the Silence; Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 4:00–6:00 PM at Crossroads Pavilion (1101 N. Poplar St., Casper).
Wyoming Behavioral Institute is co-sponsoring this powerful event, which unites survivors, families, advocates, and community members in remembrance, healing, and hope. Participants will walk in honor of those lost to suicide, show support for those struggling, and raise awareness of the resources available to help prevent future tragedies.
“Every 11 minutes, someone dies by suicide in the United States. In Natrona County, we lose a life roughly every 12 days,” said Lance Neiberger of the Task Force. “This event reminds us that none of us are alone in this fight. Together, we can break the silence, reduce stigma, and save lives.”
The Breaking the Silence Walk will feature:
- Community resource booths with local mental health providers and organizations
- Remembrance activities to honor loved ones lost to suicide
- Speakers and advocates sharing stories of hope and resilience
- Opportunities to learn about suicide prevention, mental wellness, and how to support those in need
The public is encouraged to join the Breaking the Silence Walk and take a stand against suicide. Sponsorship opportunities are also available, with proceeds directly supporting NCSPTF’s prevention, education, and support programs in Natrona County. There is no registration to participate in the event. This event is open to everyone, regardless of physical ability. There is no set distance, and walking is optional — your presence and participation are what matter most.
Why This Matters
Wyoming consistently ranks among the top five states with the highest suicide rate per capita, with deaths impacting individuals of all ages. In 2024 alone, 32 people died by suicide in Natrona County. Suicide remains the second leading cause of death for youth and young adults nationally, while older adults in Wyoming experience suicide rates more than three times the national average.
For more than 25 years, NCSPTF has been at the forefront of suicide prevention in Natrona County. The Task Force provides free Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) trainings; school-based peer trainings; resource packets for families affected by suicide; and support groups for both suicide loss survivors and attempt survivors. Through education, outreach, and collaboration with local partners, NCSPTF is committed to reducing suicides and building a healthier, more resilient community.
