NATRONA COUNTY, Wyo. — A growing number of older adults and people with disabilities in Natrona County are waiting for help with the daily tasks that allow them to safely remain in their homes — and one local organization is asking community members to step forward.
NOWCAP Services, a long-standing Wyoming nonprofit supporting people with disabilities since 1985, is seeking compassionate part-time homemakers to assist vulnerable adults enrolled in the state’s Community Choices Waiver (CCW) program. The waiver, offered through Wyoming Medicaid, helps eligible residents — age 65+ or individuals with disabilities — avoid nursing facility placement by connecting them with essential, community-based services.

“We have a waitlist of neighbors who need support right now,” the organization announced. “We’re excited to connect caring individuals with people who simply need a helping hand to keep living independently.”
Keeping Neighbors Safe at Home
Homemaker staff provide a lifeline for many CCW participants, assisting with tasks like meal preparation, grocery shopping, laundry and ironing, everyday cleaning, and deeper maintenance chores such as washing windows or cleaning appliances. These services often make the difference between remaining at home or entering long-term care. Anyone interested in learning more about the Community Choices Waiver can contact the Wyoming Department of Health’s Home and Community-Based Services Section at 1-800-510-0280. Applications, a fact sheet, and participant handbook are also available online through the department’s website.

Who Can Apply?
NOWCAP is looking for individuals over age 18 who have reliable transportation and insurance (with mileage reimbursed), and who can pass a background check along with pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. No prior caregiving experience is required; training will be provided. The organization echoes the timeless words of anthropologist Margaret Mead: “Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.”
How to Get Involved
Those who feel called to support their neighbors can apply in person at 345 N. Walsh Drive or call 1-307-237-9146 for more information. Open interviews are held:
- Monday–Wednesday at 2 p.m.
- Thursday–Friday at 10 a.m.
With community need at an all-time high, NOWCAP hopes to welcome new homemakers soon — and help more Natrona County residents live happy, healthy lives at home.
