Casper, WY – January is Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month, observed to support people contemplating or seeking help for the substance use, practitioners treating or considering treating substance use disorders, and friends, family and loved ones of those with substance use conditions. By raising awareness of treatment, we can eliminate stigma surrounding treatment, encourage those on their treatment and recovery journey, and promote best practices such as screening, intervention and treatment of substance use disorders by health care providers.
In recognition of Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month, Wyoming Behavioral Institute (WBI) is pleased to announce our hospital has been awarded OneWyo Opioid Settlement Fund grant funds to expand voluntary inpatient opioid detoxification services for Natrona County residents. This funding will directly support lifesaving treatment for individuals who are willing but unable to access medical detoxification due to financial barriers.
Natrona County’s need for expanded detoxification access is urgent. The number of people seeking inpatient detoxification at WBI grew more than 300% in 2025. The grant funds will be used to subsidize inpatient detoxification services at WBI for financially eligible Natrona County residents. The availability of care is expected to increase the number of individuals who successfully pursue recovery with support from local programs including Wyoming Recovery, Banner/Wyoming Medical Center, the University of Wyoming Family Practice Clinic and Central Wyoming Counseling.
“WBI is equipped and committed to providing medical detoxification for individuals facing opioid withdrawal,” said Mike Phillips, CEO. “This funding allows us to extend voluntary care to uninsured and under-insured residents who urgently need a safe, medically supervised path to recovery.”
WBI is the only freestanding psychiatric hospital in Wyoming and the only inpatient program admitting patients of all ages statewide, offering 24/7 psychiatric and detoxification services for adults. The hospital has provided mental health and substance use disorder treatment in Casper for nearly three decades and employs more than 270 staff, most of whom serve in direct patient care roles.

- 24/7 psychiatric and medical oversight by board-certified psychiatrists specializing in addiction.
- Evidence-based pharmacological management of opioid withdrawal, including buprenorphine for long-term stabilization.
- Comprehensive symptom management and interdisciplinary care by therapists, nurses, pharmacists and case managers.
- Discharge planning to connect patients with residential, intensive outpatient and community-based treatment programs.
