Casper, Wyoming — Lisa Engebretsen, Republican candidate for Wyoming State Senate District 29, today reaffirmed her commitment to protecting Wyoming’s public lands and voiced her opposition to the proposed Seminoe Dam project, citing concerns about property rights, public access, environmental impacts, and the long-term interests of Wyoming residents.
“Wyoming’s public lands belong to the people,” said Engebretsen. “They are a vital part of our heritage, our economy, our outdoor recreation opportunities, and our way of life. Once access is lost or these lands are fundamentally altered, it is often impossible to restore what was taken away.”
Engebretsen believes responsible water management is important, but argues that major projects must be carefully evaluated to ensure they do not unnecessarily harm public lands, private property rights, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, or local communities.
“The proposed Seminoe Dam project raises significant questions that deserve transparent answers,” Engebretsen said. “Wyoming citizens should not be asked to sacrifice public access, hunting, fishing, camping, and recreation opportunities without a clear demonstration that the benefits outweigh the costs.”
As a strong supporter of both private property rights and public land access, Engebretsen said Wyoming must pursue solutions that balance economic growth with conservation and responsible stewardship.
“I support economic development, including new industries and infrastructure projects when they make sense for Wyoming,” she said. “But development should not come at the expense of the lands that define our state and support our outdoor economy.”
Engebretsen pledged to oppose efforts that threaten public access or undermine Wyoming’s public lands and vowed to work with local communities, landowners, sportsmen, ranchers, and conservation groups to find practical solutions that protect Wyoming’s future.
“Our public lands are not a burden — they are one of Wyoming’s greatest assets,” Engebretsen said. “As your State Senator, I will fight to ensure these lands remain accessible, productive, and protected for future generations.”
