Governor Mark Gordon (Dan Cepeda, Oil City File)

CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon’s office said on Wednesday morning that the governor was pleased with a federal judge’s decision to block Biden administration’s oil and gas leasing moratorium.

A federal judge in Louisiana on Tuesday ordered that both land and water oil and gas leases continue across the country, according to the Associated Press.

“This preliminary injunction is outstanding news for Wyoming and our energy workers,” Gordon said in the Wednesday press release from his office. “It confirms the position we have maintained since this ‘pause’ was implemented.”

Gordon argued that the Biden administration had implemented an “unlawful, de-facto moratorium, causing economic harm  to states like ours that rely on lease sale revenue to fund our schools and critical functions of government.”

“We were not consulted prior to the moratorium taking effect, further underscoring the fact that this administration is operating off of an imbalanced and myopic approach to tackling climate change,” Gordon said. “We are hopeful that a similar ruling will be issued in the case filed in the District Court of Wyoming.”
