Heather Ezell (Troy Babbitt, UW Athletics)

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming recently reached an agreement with women’s basketball head coach Heather Ezell on a multi-year contract extension. The extension runs through the 2028–29 season.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to lead Cowgirl Basketball,” Ezell said. “It’s an opportunity to take this program to uncharted territory. Our goal, as always, is to win championships and compete at the highest level. I am blessed that Tom Burman and the University of Wyoming continue to believe in me to do that and continue to guide this program.”

In her first two seasons leading the Cowgirls, Ezell has compiled 41 victories and led Wyoming to back-to-back trips to the WNIT. UW has gone 24–12 in Mountain West play under Ezell, finishing in second and third place, respectively, in each of the last two seasons.

Ezell’s 23 wins in 2022–23 are a program record for the most wins by a first-year head coach.

At time of publication, the financial details of the contract have not been made available.

Ezell has coached a pair of All-Mountain West Team members: Allyson Fertig and Quinn Weidemann. Fertig, who became a two-time honoree this past season, is the first Cowgirl since Liv Roberts to earn spots on consecutive all-conference teams. Under Ezell, Weidemann and Emily Mellema were both named to the All-Defensive Team. Malene Pedersen was the 2023 MW Freshman of the Year.
