CASPER, Wyo. — Pony Express Re-Riders are bringing the mail east across Wyoming and are “making great time” on Tuesday.
The National Pony Express Association has been sharing updates via Facebook as to the status of the mail’s location.
While the ride had initially been scheduled to arrive in Martins Cove at 11:20 am Tuesday, the National Pony Express Association said that they were running about one hour and 15 minutes ahead of schedule this morning.
After passing Martins Cove, re-rider Deidra Homann was expected to pass by Independence Rock before heading into Fort Caspar, following by the National Historic Trails Center.
The Trails Center is hosting their first annual artist in residence whose residency coincides with the Pony Express Re-Ride. Laura McElfresh will be at the Trails Center from June 22-26 and is offering artist demonstrations on Tuesday as she awaits the arrival of the Re-Ride.
Demonstrations will go from 1-8 pm Tuesday, according to the Trails Center.
The Re-Ride was initially scheduled to make it to Fort Casparat around 6:45 pm and reach the Trails Center by 7:10 pm. But with the ride ahead of schedule, people may want to check for updates from the National Pony Express Association.
After reaching Casper, Joel Chamberlain will take up the next leg of the Pony Express Re-Ride. He was initially expected to reach the Sinclair Refinery by around 8 pm and get into Glenrock by around 10 pm.
At around midnight Wednesday, Bill Sinnard is expected to reach Inez Exit #150 off of I-25. He’ll then arrive in Douglas around 1:30 am.
For the last leg of the Wyoming portion of the journey, Stephanie Goulart is expected to arrive in Glendo at 4:30 am Wednesday. From there, she’ll ride to Cassa Road (5:45 am), Register Cliff (8 am), the Old Iron Bridge near Fort Laramie (9:45 am) and will arrive south of Torrington near 1 pm. She’ll then cross over into Nebraska, arriving at Lyman, Nebraska around 2:30 pm.
